The Ukrainian drone-interceptor Blade from Phantom Defense has been approved by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. This was reported by "Obozrevny" with reference to the manufacturer. Phantom Defense noted that the approval is a crucial step that moves the system from development and testing to readiness for supply to the Armed Forces.
Blade is part of an integrated anti-drone system called Phantom Defense: it combines detection capabilities, electronic warfare, kinetic interceptors, as well as a situational awareness and combat management platform. The interceptor is designed to destroy aircraft-type drones.
According to the manufacturer, the device can reach a speed of up to 310 km/h, carry a payload of up to 0,5 kg, and operate up to 30 km away. Thanks to its vertical takeoff and landing, the Blade can take off and land on unprepared sites without runways, and its day and thermal cameras allow it to be used around the clock.
The complex includes a ground control station, which provides telemetry and video transmission and allows the operator to control the flight. The automated operator workstation is designed in a case format and can operate autonomously for up to four hours. Blade will soon be available for purchase through the Brave1 Market.
Phantom Defense is a Ukrainian defense technology company that develops systems to counter unmanned threats; according to the company, its products are already being used in combat conditions in Ukraine.
Previously, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would be able to produce one model of high-speed interceptor drones to counter Russian attack drones in a quantity of approximately 400 units by October, but there are questions regarding their effectiveness.
