Lithuania froze the assets of Fridman and Usmanov after their exclusion from EU sanctions.

Lithuania has imposed national sanctions against Russian oligarchs Mikhail Fridman and Alisher Usmanov, freezing their assets. This followed the European Council's decision to remove them from its sanctions list, which has drawn criticism from Estonia, Latvia, and Ukraine.

Lithuania has imposed national sanctions against Russian oligarchs Mikhail Fridman and Alisher Usmanov, freezing their assets. This decision was made after the September 22 Council of the European Union removed them from its sanctions list.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Kojotas Budrys called the exclusion of businesspeople from the EU sanctions list a "misleading signal" and emphasized the need to increase pressure on Russia and those who support its war against Ukraine.

The foreign ministers of Estonia and Latvia also criticized the EU's decision. Margus Tsahkna, the head of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called the situation alarming and stated that Estonia had already imposed all available national sanctions on Russian oligarchs. Baiba Broze, the Latvian foreign minister, expressed disagreement with the European Union's decision and announced her intention to impose national sanctions.

September 23 Latvia introduced its own restrictions against Fridman and Usmanov, and subsequently, the Baltic states restricted the entry of businessmen into their territory. Ukraine is also working with partners to have Usmanov and Fridman included in the national sanction lists of certain countries. Canada and the United Kingdom have confirmed to Ukraine that they will not remove them from their lists.
