Ministry of Health reminds about the need to update vaccinations in adulthood

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine reminded that immunity against dangerous diseases, developed in childhood, weakens over time, so adults need to regularly update vaccinations. In particular, it is recommended to be vaccinated against diphtheria and tetanus, hepatitis A, COVID-19 and other infections.

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine reminds people about the importance of updating vaccinations in adulthood, as immunity against dangerous diseases, developed in childhood, gradually weakens over time.

Specifically, the Ministry of Health recommends that adults receive vaccinations against diphtheria and tetanus every 10 years, starting at age 16. This vaccination is free and can be administered by a family doctor.

Doctors also recommend vaccination against hepatitis A for individuals who have not previously contracted this disease. If the body contains IgG antibodies to the virus, this indicates the presence of immunity. In addition, vaccination against COVID-19 is recommended for people in high-risk groups.

Doctors emphasize the need for hepatitis B vaccination for those who were not vaccinated as children, as this pathogen is transmitted through blood and other biological fluids and can cause severe liver damage. Vaccination against the human papillomavirus, which is a preventative measure against oncological diseases, remains relevant for adults. For prospective parents, vaccination against whooping cough is recommended, which allows to protect the newborn until it develops its own immunity.
