The German defense company Quantum Systems plans to provide Ukraine with tens of thousands of SPYS interceptor drones. These are intended, in particular, to combat the new Russian reconnaissance drones "Geran-4" and "Geran-5". This was announced by the company's Vice President, Matthias Lena, at a press briefing in Berlin.
According to him, over the weekend, the parties signed a letter of intent regarding a package of tens of thousands of SPYS systems, capable of intercepting drones. SPYS is a joint development between Quantum Systems and the Ukrainian company WIY, within the framework of the joint venture Quantum WIY Industries. The development of the system took into account the experience of using the STRILA drone interceptor.
The company states that Ukraine's ability to intercept Russian combat drones has recently increased: from a very low level to over 30%, and to over 50% in the past nights. At the same time, they emphasized that this is the result of the comprehensive use of various means, including F-16 fighter jets, and not just interceptor drones.
To increase production of the SPYS, the plan is to utilize the existing facilities created for manufacturing STRILA. According to a representative of Quantum Systems, this involves producing several thousand drones per month, with thousands of units ready for delivery this year.
