Zelenskyy believes Trump is easier to communicate with than Putin.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that it is easier to negotiate with former U.S. President Donald Trump than with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He also emphasized that he will defend Ukraine's interests regardless of external pressure and accused Putin of lacking interest in a peaceful resolution.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that former U.S. President Donald Trump is easier to communicate with than Russian President Vladimir Putin. He made this statement in an interview with Euronews, in response to questions about criticism directed at him by Donald Trump and the attitudes of European leaders towards Ukraine's attacks on Russian oil refineries.
"It's easier to deal with him than with Putin. I'm talking about Trump. I had several meetings with the President of the United States, and we always found topics to discuss and make decisions on," Zelenskyy said.
This statement came amid tensions between Kyiv and Washington over Ukraine's strikes on Russian oil infrastructure and President Trump's decision to ease sanctions on Russian diesel fuel. The US President criticized these strikes, blaming them for rising global fuel prices.
Zelenskyy emphasized that his priority is to protect Ukraine's national interests, regardless of external pressure. "I am solely defending the interests of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. We have been attacked, occupied, and our people have been killed. It is logical that we have the right to defend ourselves," he said. The President also accused Putin of blocking peaceful efforts, stating that the Russian leader is not interested in a peaceful agreement.
