The government has reversed the decision to liquidate the State Healthcare Service: the agency will become Ukrpharma Agency.

The Cabinet of Ministers, through Resolution No. 1209, has revoked the previous decision to liquidate the State Pharmaceutical Service, renaming it the Ukrainian Pharmaceutical Agency along with its territorial bodies. The new regulator will be responsible for approving drugs for the market, controlling their quality, safety, and effectiveness, as well as for medical devices, the circulation of narcotics, and the blood supply system.

The Cabinet of Ministers, through resolution №1209, has revoked its own previous decision to liquidate the State Service of Medicines and Drug Control. Instead of liquidation, the agency will be renamed the Ukrainian Pharmaceutical Agency (Ukrfarmahentstvo), which will become the sole state regulator of the pharmaceutical market. The territorial bodies of the State Service of Medicines will also be renamed as the territorial bodies of Ukrfarmahentstvo.

The new regulator's responsibilities will include approving medicines for the market and ensuring their quality, safety, and effectiveness. The agency will also oversee the market and control medical devices, in vitro diagnostic tools, implanted medical devices, bioimplants, and cosmetic products. In addition, it will implement state policy in the area of the circulation of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and precursors, as well as combat their illegal circulation, and will be responsible for blood donation and the functioning of the blood system.

It was initially planned to create a new body by reorganizing the State Medicines Service, followed by its integration into Ukrpharma Agency. The State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health was to be the main source of expert experience, personnel, and digital solutions for this new body. In June of this year, the Cabinet of Ministers officially liquidated the State Medicines Service with a decree №739.
