In Ukraine, it is planned to adopt a law by the end of 2027 that will create the legal framework for the introduction of toll roads. This was announced by Serhiy Derkach, the first deputy minister of community and territorial development of Ukraine.

According to the official, implementing a fee for using specific roads is a mandatory requirement of the European Union and part of EU law. Ukraine is obligated to establish a legal framework and the possibility of implementing toll roads.

Relevant agencies have already established maximum tariffs for travel, which depend on the type of vehicle: up to 1.17 UAH per kilometer for passenger cars, up to 2.30 UAH per kilometer for buses and trucks weighing between 3.5 and 12 tons, and up to 6.79 UAH per kilometer for heavy trucks. These amounts are maximum tariffs, not confirmed travel costs on specific roads.

Among the reasons for the rapid deterioration of Ukrainian roads, the deputy minister cited the systematic overloading of trucks. According to him, transport companies often use documents with different data on the actual weight of the transported goods, including indicating lower figures. The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development is working to align Ukrainian legislation with EU standards in the transport sector.
