Ministry of Agrarian Policy: Land routes cover 45–50% of exports, and they are crucial for planting 2027

Land routes can transport approximately 2,5 million tons of agricultural products per month, which is 45–50% of the required volume, according to Minister Taras Vysotsky. Transportation via these routes is at least 50 dollars per ton more expensive than through deep-water ports, and the country needs an additional approximately 11 million tons for storage. The final areas for planting-2027 will be determined closer to February.

Land-based export routes cannot yet fully replace maritime exports: they can transport approximately 2,5 million tons of agricultural products per month — about 45–50% of the required volume. This was reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, citing Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky.

Land transportation costs at least 50 dollars more per ton compared to transportation through deep-water seaports. According to the minister, reducing logistical costs directly affects the farmer's ability to continue working. Ukraine is trying to increase the capacity of existing land routes and is negotiating with international partners about new routes; according to the minister, the situation with queues at the borders and the passage of transport has been stabilized at 70–80%.

Due to limited export capacity, the country requires additional storage space for approximately 11 million tons of grain. This can be partially addressed without building new grain elevators – using polymer grain silos that can be placed in fields, on storage yards, or industrial sites: each silo can hold up to 250 tons, and grain can be stored for up to a year, or even two, at a cost of approximately 4 dollars per ton. Continuous electricity is not required for this, and distributing reserves across different locations during the war reduces the risk of losing the entire volume due to damage to a single facility.

A more accurate assessment of the future areas available for planting-2027 will be possible after the completion of the autumn field work, and the final decisions of the farm are expected to be made closer to February.
